Amazing Adventure is our Sunday morning program for children, also known as Sunday School.
Children aged three to twelve participate in an interactive program that uses drama, music, movies, computers, storytelling and games to introduce a new theme with a bible base each month.
The program begins in the church with a children’s talk after the first hymn, then the children process out of the church into the upper hall where they participate in a small Children's service. This service includes a mini-verson of many of the things which are done in the main service (Offertory hymn, Lords Prayer and reading of the Gospel).
After the Children's service, the children arrange into their classes by age group. The 9+ year olds meet in the boardroom, the 6 to 8 year olds meet in the basement of the Scout Hall and the 4-5 year olds and nursery meet on the main floor of the Scout hall. The Scout Hall can be found next to St. Barnabas parish hall on the west side and is linkend by a linked hallway. This is a two-storey building which includes a kitchen, large room for meetings, two smaller rooms used for the "Amazing Adventure"' and church nursery as well as a washroom.
During the year, there are also seasonal programs planned for the children, the most popular being St. Barnabas' Christmas Eve pageant. Children are invited to come in costume as sheep, shepherds, angels and stable animals - and the children are invited to participate in a reenactment of the Nativity. Baby Jesus is usually the latest infant born in the parish.
On average there are approximately 30 children who participate each morning in our Amazing Adventure and the curriculm is taught by trained volunteers using Seasons of the Spirit. (www.spiritseasons.com)
