July 19

On Sundays in July and August, coffee hour will be on a sign-up basis, giving our regular coffee hosts a well-deserved rest. Please consider signing up to make coffee one Sunday this summer. The sign-up sheet is in the narthex. Thank you! Any tables and chairs set up on July 19 do not need to be put away.

Parishioner Kris Lowry is putting together a scrapbook to document the parish's experience of the pandemic for our archives. She is asking for written submissions, photos, drawings, poems, etc. Her email address is krislowry679@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions of your reflections has been extended to July 31st.

Kersi returns from vacation on August 2.

Children’s Ministry at St. Barnabas: Looking to the Future

Over the past several weeks, the Children’s Ministry Committee and Parish Council have been prayerfully discerning a vision for the future of children’s ministry at St. Barnabas.  At the heart of this vision is the hope that our children will be known by name, experience church as a place where they belong, and be gradually invited into the worshipping life of our parish in age-appropriate ways. As the ministry grows, future possibilities might include junior readers, servers/acolytes, children’s music, seasonal Advent and Lent activities, and other opportunities for children to participate in the life of the church.

We are currently exploring different ways of supporting this vision, including:

* a shared leadership model, in which two parishioners work together to lead and coordinate a lectionary-based children’s ministry; and

* a Children’s Ministry Coordinator, providing regular leadership, teaching, volunteer coordination, and continuity as the ministry grows.

We would now love to hear from members of the congregation.

Perhaps you might teach once a month—or a few times a year. Perhaps you would enjoy leading a Christmas craft, helping with children’s music, supporting a special event, or exploring a more substantial leadership role. Training and mentorship can be provided where needed. Expressions of interest are not commitments. We simply want to learn more about the gifts, interests, and possibilities already present within our parish community.

Please complete our short Children’s Ministry Expression of Interest Form:  https://forms.gle/5xAmtFsAtfnCjwMa6

You are also very welcome to speak directly with Alethea or Kersi if you would prefer. Copies of the full Children’s Ministry Discussion Document are available in the narthex for anyone who would like to read more about the vision, possible leadership models, and future opportunities being explored. Please continue to keep this ministry, our children, and the discernment process in your prayers.

Walking Together in Prayer and Support

Walking Together in Prayer and Support

Father Thomas Gatluak is currently in the process of sponsoring his wife and children so that their family may be reunited in Canada after years of separation due to conflict and displacement.

Father Thomas has initiated a GoFundMe appeal to assist with one-time, upfront expenses only, including immigration application fees, required medical documentation, travel to Canada, and initial settlement needs.

Parishioners and friends are invited to hold the family in prayer, to share the appeal within their own networks, and, for those who feel able, to offer financial support.
